July 2024 Board Meeting

The FINRA Board of Governors will hold its third meeting of 2024 this week, engaging in a series of general policy discussions as is customary for our mid-year gathering.

Among the topics on the agenda are a review of investor protection issues and trends; opportunities for providing additional tools, products and services to members; and a discussion around the use of artificial intelligence (AI)—the topic of a recent Regulatory Notice. As this Notice indicates, we are available to engage with firms or other interested parties who wish to provide feedback or are seeking additional guidance regarding AI, and the Notice lists the various ways to do so.

As we outlined in last month’s Election Notice, three governor seats are up for election in September, when member firms will select one candidate each to represent small, medium-size and large firms on the FINRA Board. Industry engagement is key to ensuring our rules and programs reflect the diverse business models of firms and how they operate, the complexity of today’s securities markets and the wide range of investors the industry serves. With that in mind, I encourage you to participate in the engagement process by ensuring your firm casts its vote in the election. And as always, please consider contributing your unique perspectives and skillset to one of FINRA’s advisory committees—you can submit an indication of interest using FINRA’s engagement portal.

In addition, remember to check out the Member Firm Hub on FINRA’s website for all the latest Notices and other guidance, links to essential resources, details about upcoming events and more important information for member firms.

The Board’s next meeting is Sept. 18-19. More information regarding the Board’s operations, including the membership and responsibilities of its committees, is available on our website.

Sincerely,

Robert W. Cook
