Noah Teller Comment On Regulatory Notice 22-08

Faith in markets matters. Our country today sits in many ways at a crossroads. Working people have seen their wage gains eaten away by inflation, while corporate and institutional profits are at record highs. If we live in a free and equal society, working people need equal access to investment products that can give them opportunities for growth which reward diligent research and prudent choices.

This countrys legal and institutional foundations are democratic because we believe in the fundamental equality of people and the rights that follow - to have an equal say in making the world as we collectively choose. In politics, one person one vote; in markets, we vote with our dollars. Restricting investment opportunities for retail investors limits their ability to shape markets, and I believe this is antithetical to the principle of a free market.

The arrogance of this regulatory proposal is frankly astounding. Under the guise of protecting investors who dont understand one investment product or another, this regulation only consolidates institutional control of investment opportunities to make them more predictable, at the expense of the rights of all investors. I and millions of other retail investors are capable of reading and comprehending the investment products we choose. I urge you to toss aside this underhanded consolidation of market control disguised as a protective regulation.
