I, not anyone else, should be the individual that would make the final decision on what investment in which my funds should be invested. There is no way that in a country that has so long been the bastion of freedom that my right to make that decision should be curtailed and only allowed to be made by someone who does not know my needs and desires. The idea that someone make my decisions is abominable. As far as I'm concerned it is simply another way to take away my constitutional rights.
I am not ignorant and would always work with an advisor if I felt that I needed more insight into what I was contemplating.
