I would want all the of these actions implemented and a DAILY accounting of it in both graphing and table form made available for public consumption. I believe that short positions are a part of the market's functionality. However, only 1 level. That is, a true 1-to-1 correspondence of short to stock share. The delivery date MUST be cut down to 1 day without a 'kick-the-can' down the road opportunity. I do not want to see small cap and micro cap stocks to EVER be shorted. Shorting smaller companies can destroy innovation of new technologies and scientific breakthroughs. If they fail on their own, fine. The market individuals/entities that participate in shorting, should have to rely on their research of the company and market climate as to whether shorting of a mid/large company is allowed. I'm very worried about all the smaller companies or large companies that have dwindled in size to be a small cap company to be allowed to survive via bankruptcy proceedings and re-organization. We'd probably have all the companies we've lost lately if they weren't allowed to short them. We have lost jobs, tax base, etc due to the 'shorting into the ground' of large banks and hedge funds.
