This week, the FINRA Board of Governors will convene for its May 2018 meeting—our second of the year. Our agenda includes discussions on a range of important topics, and we will be joined by two guest speakers from the SEC—Peter Driscoll from the Office of Inspections and Examinations and Kevin Goodman from the FINRA and Securities Industry Oversight group.
Highlighted below are some of the key items the committees will consider during the meeting.
- The Regulatory Policy Committee will review several current rulemaking and policy initiatives, including:
- proposed amendments to the arbitration discovery guidelines; and
- proposed amendments to the definition of and TRACE dissemination protocols for agency debt securities.
In addition, this committee will receive updates on FINRA’s response to the Dispute Resolution Task Force recommendations and on pending regulatory proposals.
- The Regulatory Operations Oversight Committee meeting will include several FINRA staff updates, including:
- a presentation around Market Regulation’s cross-market surveillance program and regulatory service agreements;
- a presentation from Member Regulation on its high-risk registered representative program; and
- a progress report on the consolidation of FINRA’s Enforcement Department.
- The Nominating and Governance Committee will review annual appointments to the various advisory committees, and will consider nominations for vacancies on the Board of Governors. In addition, the committee will call for nominations for NAC terms that will begin in 2019.
- The Audit Committee will review a draft of the 2017 FINRA Annual Financial Report, which we will publish in June.
I look forward to sharing an update about these discussions after the meeting.
Sincerely,
Robert W. Cook
