Computerworld Names FINRA Among Best Places to Work in IT for 5th Consecutive Year
WASHINGTON — One of the best places to work in information technology happens to be in financial regulation: the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), according to IDG’s Computerworld. This is the fifth year in a row that FINRA has placed in Computerworld’s 100-company list.
“FINRA offers technologists an opportunity to do groundbreaking work that makes a meaningful contribution to our mission of investor protection and market integrity,” said Steve Randich, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “We’re proud that Computerworld has again recognized how we’re enabling technologists to create – and innovate – in support of FINRA’s strength as a financial regulator.”
As an example, Randich cited the Technology group’s use of the cloud to make storing and processing vast quantities of data scalable and secure, and to put enhanced capabilities in the hands of skilled regulatory analysts. Creating open-source software and hosting hackathons have also engaged the Technology team in a vibrant community internally and externally, he added.
In its Best Places to Work in IT 2016 list, Computerworld said of FINRA, “The people who work at this independent, nongovernmental regulator of securities firms know their employer has their back,” and that FINRA “offers a robust parental leave benefit for the birth or adoption of a child, pays up to $5,000 per child for adoption-related expenses, funds emergency backup care when regular child care or elder care is unavailable, and offers flexible work arrangements to help employees balance competing work and family demands. FINRA also allows employees to take two paid days off per year to do volunteer work to give back to their communities and the charities of their choice.”
"The organizations on this year’s Best Places to Work in IT list excel at creating a dynamic and satisfying IT work environment,” said Scot Finnie, Editor in Chief of Computerworld. “In a competitive market for tech talent, these outstanding employers are able to attract highly skilled IT pros by offering great benefits, new learning opportunities, access to cutting-edge technologies and challenging, business-critical projects.”
FINRA is the largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States. FINRA is dedicated to investor protection and market integrity through effective and efficient regulation and complementary compliance and technology-based services. In addition, FINRA provides surveillance and other regulatory services for equities and options markets, as well as trade reporting and other industry utilities.
