FINRA DAPI Changes
FINRA is alerting consumers of its OTC Transparency Data to some recent changes related to the FINRA API platform.
OAuth2 Authentication:
In order to improve security, FINRA is transitioning to OAuth2 authentication. As such, the API platform will only support OAuth2 authentication starting June 1, 2022.
After May 31, 2022 the FINRA API platform will no longer support Basic Authentication for API requests. OAuth2 replaces long lasting credentials with limited life span tokens, resulting in improved security and control of FINRA data.
Current API users who have connected to the FINRA API platform using Basic Authentication should plan to migrate to OAuth2 on or before May 31,2022. Both Basic Authentication and OAuth2 authentication will be supported in parallel until that date, thus allowing users to test the new security model during this time. Users may convert to OAuth2 anytime between now and May 31, 2022, when Basic Authentication will be retired.
Please see the API Platform Basics section of the documentation for details on implementing OAuth2 authentication.
Equity Datasets:
Since the launch of the FINRA API platform, the Equity datasets have been accessible via an API request without providing an Authorization Header. However, in order to ensure the security and performance of the API platform going forward, beginning June 1, 2022 all API requests will require authentication.
Current API users who have implemented integrations using the Equity datasets should plan to add authentication to all API requests on or before May 31, 2022.
Details on implementing API authentication can be found in the API Documentation. For information on obtaining API Credentials to access the Equity datasets please see the API Console documentation.
Please contact the API Team with any questions or issues migrating to OAuth2 or the equity data set authentication.
